3 Things You Can Do To Have a More Eco-Friendly Commute To Work

When Spring starts to bloom, everyone has a natural calling to head outside and soak in some Vitamin D. For those who live in colder climates, it’s the first time since winter where you can head outside and enjoy it. Here are my top 3 ways you can have a more eco-friendly commute to work.

1. Walk or Bike

Do you happen to work in the city where they offer bike riding services? If you do, you should give them a try. Anytime you can get your body moving instead of getting in a vehicle is always the greenest way. Even if you take the train into work and have more than a couple of blocks to keep going, minimize your carbon footprint by getting in some steps or using the bike service. Not only is this a more eco way to commute but it helps get your heart rate up with a bit of exercise so you can have a more productive morning.

Pro Tip! Do you have an option to take the stairs and not the elevator? This is another way you can be more eco while getting closer to reaching your daily step goal.

2. Public Transportation

This one may seem obvious to some of you but use public transportation! I know in some cities this is not always the easiest option, but it definitely is a greener one. If you work in an area where this is accessible to you a highly encourage you to do it. If this is something completely new to you start slow. Take a moment the night before to map out your route and see which is going to get you to where you need to be. Then try it out a couple of times per week before you commit to a full transition.

Pro Tip! Look at your employee benefits to see if you qualify for rideshare benefits. Ask people at work that you know use public transit or contact your human resource department directly.

3. Buy a Fuel Efficient Car

If you have a job where driving is the only option, you may want to consider purchasing a fuel-efficient car. Purchasing a fuel-efficient or hybrid car will not only decrease your carbon footprint but it will decrease how much money and time you spend at the gas station. Due to popular demand, more and more car manufactures have this option. Take a look at your local dealer's lot to learn more about all the benefits of purchasing a more eco-friendly car.

Pro Tip! Are you able to carpool to work with someone? Ask around and see if this could be another option for you.

Conclusion

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not”- Dr. Seuss

Stop looking for someone else to take the responsibility to make a change. Here are 3 things you can do to have a more eco-friendly commute to work.
